The Alchemist of Happiness
Imam al Ghazali is one of the most studied scholars in Islam.
This is a one-day seminar and film screening of The Alchemist of Happiness, led by Ustadha Zaynab Ansari.
We look to the aḥādīth of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, for guidance on a range of topics, including prayer, fasting, diet, marriage, parenting, interfaith relations, politics, and so much more.
The Islamic intellectual tradition is rooted in four primary sources: the Book of God, the teachings of His Messenger, the consensus of scholars, and the tools of juristic reasoning. Remove the words of the Prophet and a huge corpus of religious knowledge is lost.
Fortunately, the Muslim community from the very beginning strove to maintain the integrity of the Prophetic tradition, or Sunna, through carefulpreservation of his aḥādīth.
This workshop will examine the role of women in shaping, sharing, and securing the legacy of the Prophet, peace be upon him, through their work as Muḥaddithāt, scholars of the hadith canon. Through their efforts, the intellectual foundations of Islam were preserved and transmitted for the benefit of future generations. We may have heard the story of Aisha, may God be pleased with her. But how much do we know about the women who came after her?
Women in the Qur’an
Women in the Qur’an is an enrichment course, part of Tayseer Seminary’s offerings for individuals of the community who desire to take a seminary-level course without having to enroll in the full-time program.
Designed for adult learners with a background in the essentials of Islam, Women in the Qur’an will highlight the stories of the women mentioned in the Qur’an and their roles as either paradigms of faith or cautionary tales for those who reject the divine message.
Women in the Qur’an is a continuation of an earlier enrichment class, First in Faith, which examined the lives of exemplary women from the earliest days of Islam.
Women in the Qur’an seeks to examine the foundations of the worldview of these early women, a worldview rooted in the Qur’an, the final divine revelation to humanity.
The aim of this course is to present a woman-centered reading of the Qur’an that is rooted in tradition, but also recognizes the contributions of modern scholarship to the field of Qur’anic studies. The instructor will draw on multiple sources to offer a window onto the lives of the women portrayed in the divine revelation.
By the end of the course, students will, insha’Allah, come away with a renewed sense of appreciation for the miracle of the Qur’an and its presentation of female role models of faith, piety, and strength.
Women’s Fiqh Workshop
A very important workshop to answer all those personal questions regarding women’s fiqh. Ustadha Zaynab Ansari will take you through the basics of tahara (cleanliness and purification for acts of worship).
Question and answer session will follow!
Join us for a special seerah (prophetic biography) course covering the time in Mecca from the time of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) through the heritage of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The course will provide exciting details usually overlooked in seerah classes and stop short of the blessed birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which will be covered in a later course.
