Through rigorous education, spiritual immersion, and transformative practice, Tayseer Seminary’s one year program aims to enable students to embark on a life-long journey of learning, self-discovery and service to the umma of the Prophet ﷺ.
Comprehensive and holistic introduction to the core sciences of the Islamic scholarly tradition.
Forge a profound and everlasting relationship with the Divine with devotional practice, spiritual retreats, and more.
Centering community service projects as an essential part of a holistic educational experience.
In a time in which materialist philosophies and ways of life increasingly dominate our culture, it has never been more important for Muslims to embark on the transformative journey of seeking knowledge of Revelation and the Divine. The path leading to this knowledge was laid down by the Prophet and was tread upon by the Companions, and each subsequent generation of Muslims has traveled it in a manner that was relevant and responsive to their own changing contexts.
Tayseer provides an in-depth introduction to the foundational Islamic sciences that enables students to become insightful and effective servants of God in the modern world. In addition to covering the core Islamic sciences such as ʿUlūm al-Qurʾān, Tafsīr, Sīrah, Hadith, Tawḥīd, Fiqh, and Sulūk, classes on Islam in America, Islam and Modernity, Activism, and Methodology help students to understand text in light of context and to translate their knowledge into effective courses of individual and communal action.
Tayseer aims not only to educate the minds of students, but to encourage them to forge a profound and everlasting relationship with the Divine. Knowledge is necessary for spiritual transformation, but it will not penetrate the heart without consistent practice.
We strive to foster an environment in which students can explore and deepen their spiritual experience through required devotional exercises such as Qiyam al-Layl, daily dhikr, regular fasting, and regular spiritual retreats. In addition to these practices, supportive bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood create an immersive experience that facilitates each student’s personal journey.
Tayseer’s approach to the Islamic sciences is grounded in the conviction that the Prophetic legacy is one of justice. Tayseer offers a class on community building and development that grounds students in an understanding of the nature and mechanisms of effective activism. In addition, the seminary facilitates opportunities for students to practice their skills by developing close relationships with the various Islamic institutions and activists in the Knoxville area.
